Fellows Home Pinewild Country Club

Fellows home in Pinewild Country ClubThe Fellows home in Pinewild Country Club won The Home of the Year Award in 2005 by the Moore County Home Builders.

Unique architectural elements abound in this home of the year. Whether you're looking at the cupola at the top of the house or the collection of vertical rectangular windows to the left of the entry, this home creates visual interest. The back of the home doesn't disappoint either, featuring a curved exterior window wall, screened porch and a large outdoor area for entertaining.

Builder and designer Daniel Degre said the project posed a few challenges, but he was able to anticipate those and work around them. "Since we design every home we build, we know ahead of time where most of the tricky areas of the construction will occur". This home of the year was one of Degre's favorite projects.

Custom homes of this nature offer a lot of opportunity to show what you've got. The homeowners had very specific ideas, but were always open to a new interpretation of their vision. Situations such as this lead to a very creative atmosphere, which makes for an enjoyable experience.

diDonato home in Pinewild Country Club, Pinehurst, NC The diDonato Home in Pinewild won Home of the 2004 Year by the Moore County Home Builders Association.

Tradition and formal elegance bestow the diDonato's stately brick and columned home with double chimneys. Located in Pinewild Country Club, the home features Juliet balconies and handmade wrought-iron railings.

Judges were impressed with the superior quality, expressing surprise that the home fit into this price category (instead of a higher priced category).

Some notable features included reclaimed Heart of Pine flooring, a custom built front entry, and radius paneled interior archways. All cabinets and built-ins were custom made.

Shepherd Home in Fox Box Development in Vass

Shepherd home in Fox Box Development in Vass, NC This traditional farmhouse in the Fox Box development of Vass takes top honors in its cost category in the 2007 Moore County Home Builders Home of the Year Awards. With more than 9,000 square feet (4,753 heated) the home offers owners James and Cindy Shepherd a large, gourmet kitchen with professional grade appliances. The kitchen opens to the breakfast and keeping rooms, as well as a butler's pantry.

It is a picturesque home with a weathervane, covered front patio fit for rocking chairs and a sprawling, 10 acre lawn. Once inside, the home's main floor offers gracious living to the Shepherds and their guests.The great room, with a vaulted ceiling, overlooks a large back deck with views of the pastures. The master suite is complete with hardwood floors in the bedroom, dual vanities in the bathroom, a dressing room and his and her closets.

The second floor features a studio, and two additional bedrooms and bathrooms. Almost everything in this home was a special order or custom item. It includes a great deal of mill work, such as wainscoting, custom mantels, heavy crown moldings, casing and baseboards.

Jones Home in Grande Pines

Jones home in Grande Pines, Foxfire, NCThe Jones home in Grande Pines won Home of the 2007 Year by the Moore County Home Builders Association in its category.

This lovely transitional home sits on more than 5 acres and has beautiful views. Inside the home the first floor offers a spacious great room, which is open to the second floor, a dedicated lounge, gourmet kitchen and a four seasons room.

To help the children make the grade, there is a secluded kids room that features a study area. A gracious master suite with fireplaces in both the bedroom and the bathroom can be found on the first floor, while the second floor offers three additional bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The best part was working with the homeowners. "They allowed us to do the job they hired us for, which is increasingly rare in the custom home business." The net result is a beautiful home everyone is happy with.

Conveniently located in Pinehurst, this contemporary home has views of the golf course from the front of the house. This home features many techniques and materials unusual to this area. One dramatic amenity is a stone see-through fireplace between the living and dining room with views out to the courtyard.

The tiled courtyard features a fire ring with seating and stone accents and a koi pond with a splashing waterfall. One judge took particular note of the soothing water sounds. A huge custom glass and wood entry is the focal point for the front of the house.

Vernier Home in Pinewild Country Club

Vernier home in Pinewild, Pinehurst, NCThe Vernier home in Pinewild won The Award of Excellence in 2003 by the Moore County Home Builders Association.

This spacious, traditional home features decorative niches throughout the house. This home offers a lot of small details that reveal themselves over time. It is hard to see everything in just one visit. One of the judges stated that the 6,270 square foot home had a deceptive entry appearance and emphasized that the home is actually much larger than it appears from the front. He found the home to be a "well-hidden surprise" with "space galore".

The judges also particularly appreciated the layout, calling out the lower-level floor plan as "truly amazing". Other noted features included the custom trim work, the wine closet storage, the door casings, columns and archways and the butler's pantry.

Kernan home in Pinewild Country Club

Kernan home in Pinewild, Pinehurt NCThe Kernan home in Pinewild Country Club won the 2005 Home of the Year Award by the Moore County Home Builders Association.

Chaulk up a second home-of-the-year win for Step One Design with this beautiful estate in Pinewild. Step One's President Daniel Degre is proud of all the home's custom features, including garage doors, cabinets, built-ins and a curved two-story deck on the exterior. A waterfall and pond were incorporated into the natural slope of the lot.

This home has a lot of small details throughout, which gives visitors the opportunity to discover new things about the house each time they visit. Planning and executing this project was a very enjoyable process.

Construction highlights for this home include insulated hot water lines, moisture resistant sub-floors, high efficiency heat pumps and electrical surge protection for the entire house. Good communication between the builder and homeowner is crucial to a successful end result. One of the most important things in custom building is the free flow of ideas. This whole experience was a positive one.

Sawyer Home in Pinewild Country Club

Sawyer home Pinewild, Pinehurst, NCThe Sawyer home in Pinewild Country Club won The Award of Excellence in 2002 by the Moore County Home Builders Association.

This vernacular contemporary home in Pinewild offers a lot of wonderful views of the golf course, pond, green and tee. One of the home's distinctive features is the curved wall of glass that allows panoramic views from the great room. Exterior walls set on the diagonal further maximize the views from multiple angles.

Inside, distinctive five-inch wide hardwood flooring is used throughout most of the house. Ten-foot and higher ceilings add to the open airiness of the house. Tray ceilings and custom moldings, including eight-inch baseboards with integrated electrical sockets give the home an elegant finish.

Salley Home in Pinehurst's Fairwoods on 7

The Salley Home located in Pinehurst's Fairwoods on 7 Won the Award of Excellence in 2003 by the Moore County Home Builders Association.

One of just a few contemporary houses in the competition, this home is laced with unusual elements. With 9,534 square feet of living space, the home features a dry sauna in the basement, a tasting room in the wine cellar, a hand carved stone fireplace and columns imported from Mexico, and numerous built ins that particularly impressed the judges.

Though the severe slope of the site initially presented a challenge, Step One Design drew the plans that ultimately overcame the difficulty. The landscape design brings into play a long list including dogwoods, weeping cherries, wax myrtle, mahonia, gardenia and more - eye candy that warranted the installation of custom made glass windows in the breakfast room to offer uninterrupted views of the gardens.
